China pledges to continue crackdown on cross-border bets until 2022

China's public security ministry said mainland Chinese authorities had succeeded in curbing so-called cross-border gambling activities during 2021 and would continue the policy this year.

China "will use methods such as blacklisting foreign institutions and individuals who support gambling groups, and blocking gambling money transfer routes.

China has announced it will work with international law enforcement and push for "joint crackdown" measures with other countries to ensure cross-border gambling groups targeting mainland Chinese face "severe penalties."

To that end, China will update its "blacklisting" of overseas organizations and individuals supporting gambling groups.

Authorities have also announced that they will update their "blacklist system" for certain jurisdictions that have recruited mainland Chinese gamblers. No venues or organizations have been mentioned by name in previously announced mainland Chinese announcements and media stories about blacklists.

In the 12 months to Dec. 31, Chinese authorities made the "biggest effort" on cross-border gambling in recent years and achieved the "most effective results," the statement said on Tuesday.

The document added that several large cross-border gambling networks recruiting mainland Chinese athletes were dismantled in 2021.
